Amazon’s Next Move? Turning Delivery Vans into Lifesaving Missions

Amazon is quietly evolving from just a retail giant into a serious player in healthcare and it might start at your doorstep. The company tested a program in 2023 called Project Pulse, where delivery drivers were trained in CPR and equipped with defibrillators in their vans. The pilot ran for several months in cities like London, Amsterdam, and Bologna, with over 100 drivers participating. Some even received emergency alerts through citizen responder apps and arrived on the scene though emergency services were already present in those cases.

While Amazon hasn’t rolled the program out further just yet, a spokesperson said the company is reviewing the feedback and considering future opportunities. Beyond being a smart PR move, the initiative aligns with Amazon’s growing healthcare goals. After acquiring primary care provider One Medical for $3.9 billion in early 2023, Amazon seems ready to go further especially as competitors like Walmart and Walgreens scale back their healthcare efforts.

As Amazon continues to leverage its vast logistics network, the line between tech, retail, and healthcare keeps blurring.
