Trump’s Executive Actions Draw Attention to the Supreme Court

On Tuesday evening, President Donald Trump is expected to greet several members of the Supreme Court on the House floor before delivering his first address to Congress during his second term. However, behind the scenes, there have been signs that some justices are feeling the pressure.

Numerous lawsuits challenging Trump’s executive actions have brought significant attention to federal courts, including the Supreme Court, which is currently reviewing two appeals related to the president’s executive orders. Justice Elena Kagan acknowledged the growing scrutiny at a recent alumni event, noting the heavy focus on the courts and the potential impact on her own institution.

The Trump administration has at times hinted at disregarding federal court rulings, raising concerns about a potential constitutional crisis. Trump recently made a statement on social media implying that those who save their country are not bound by law. Furthermore, when questioned by senators, two high-ranking nominees for the Justice Department did not provide clear answers on whether the administration would adhere to court orders.

The combination of these threats and ongoing litigation, including one case accusing the administration of defying court rulings, has made the Supreme Court, an institution typically wary of political entanglements, more cautious in its approach.
