A Minneapolis Shooting left three people dead and six others injured after gunfire erupted downtown Wednesday afternoon.
Police responded to reports of multiple victims near 15 East Grant Street around 4:36 p.m. local time. Initially, officers believed only one person had suffered injuries during the incident. However, additional emergency calls soon reported more gunfire and additional victims nearby.
As a result, officers quickly expanded their response and entered a high-rise apartment building in the area. They encountered injured people inside while also hearing further gunfire coming from another floor. Consequently, officers moved toward the reported gunfire while attempting to locate and assist victims.
According to police officials, a smoky haze inside the building reduced visibility as officers continued their response. During that operation, two officers suffered gunshot wounds, while another officer sustained a separate injury. Authorities did not immediately provide additional details about the third officer’s condition.
Meanwhile, officers located the suspected shooter, who died at the scene. Authorities had not immediately determined publicly how the suspect died. Investigators continued examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths and injuries as multiple agencies assisted with the response.
The incident ultimately left three people dead, including the suspected shooter, while six others sustained injuries. Four injured people received transportation to a local hospital for medical treatment. However, one of those victims later died from their injuries, according to police officials.
