Robert Lee Ingram Jr., 22, and Gracie Jai Tellez, 20, face serious charges following their infant daughter’s death. Authorities arrested both parents in Jacksonville on August 7 after a lengthy investigation by Hollywood police. U.S. Marshals took the couple into custody following warrants connected with the investigation. Prosecutors charged both parents with aggravated manslaughter and child neglect causing severe bodily harm.
Emergency responders first encountered the seven-week-old girl on October 14, 2025, after Tellez contacted emergency services. She reportedly told dispatchers that her daughter appeared cold, pale, and unresponsive inside their residence. When officers and paramedics arrived, they immediately began performing lifesaving measures on the infant. Emergency personnel then transported the baby to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital for further treatment.
Doctors placed the infant on life support while medical teams attempted to determine the cause. However, four days later, physicians declared the child brain dead following the severe injuries. Medical personnel subsequently removed the infant from life support, according to investigators. The Broward County Medical Examiner later classified the death as a homicide.
The medical examiner determined that complications from blunt head trauma caused the infant’s death. Investigators subsequently concluded that the injuries resulted from violent shaking involving repeated movement of her head and neck. Authorities said the medical findings could not support the parents’ initial explanations. Consequently, detectives continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the infant’s final hours.
Initially, both parents reportedly told investigators that their daughter had behaved normally before becoming unresponsive. They said she had received a bottle and then went into her bassinet. However, investigators later identified inconsistencies between their accounts and other evidence. Authorities also questioned statements concerning how the parents monitored their daughter before discovering her condition.
According to investigators, the parents claimed they used FaceTime to watch the infant remotely. However, detectives alleged that they were instead playing video games and watching online videos. Authorities described those actions as an effort to conceal what actually happened. Furthermore, investigators said the couple provided different accounts about the events preceding the emergency call.
Police said neither parent offered a reasonable explanation for the infant’s serious injuries. Investigators also alleged that both parents failed to provide adequate supervision and care. Although the couple denied causing or knowing about the injuries, authorities continued pursuing criminal charges. The case therefore centers on how the infant suffered the fatal trauma.
The infant death investigation continued for several months before authorities obtained arrest warrants. A judge issued the warrants on July 27, according to investigators. Authorities then arrested both parents in Jacksonville before transferring them to Broward County custody. Officials are currently holding Ingram and Tellez separately without bond.
The charges represent the latest development in an investigation that began with an emergency call. Meanwhile, prosecutors will have to establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s injuries through evidence presented during court proceedings. The parents remain accused of serious crimes and retain their legal rights throughout the case. Authorities have not indicated when the defendants will next appear before a judge.
