A fatal crash in Issaquah has led prosecutors to charge a 22-year-old Costco employee with murder. Authorities accuse Tyler Sorensen of deliberately driving into coworker Jonathon Langdon’s motorcycle after an emotional confrontation. The incident occurred July 31 after both men left a Costco parking lot in Issaquah. According to court records, Sorensen allegedly followed Langdon before moving his vehicle into the motorcycle’s path. The collision threw Langdon from the motorcycle and sent him into a nearby metal signpost. Emergency responders later treated Langdon, but the 20-year-old ultimately died from his injuries.
Investigators say Sorensen’s alleged actions followed an encounter involving a female coworker. According to authorities, Sorensen told investigators that he became angry after watching Langdon hug the woman. Sorensen allegedly believed the woman had previously been his girlfriend, although she disputed that account. She reportedly told police that they had never been romantically involved. Instead, she described Sorensen as a friend and said she had requested additional space. Authorities also said she believed Sorensen had repeatedly crossed personal boundaries.
After seeing the interaction, Sorensen allegedly sent messages to friends expressing intense anger. Investigators say those messages indicated that his emotions escalated shortly before the collision. Sorensen allegedly followed Langdon from the parking area and then struck his motorcycle. Prosecutors argue that the circumstances support a second-degree murder charge against the young man.
Following the fatal crash, Sorensen allegedly left the scene rather than remaining with investigators. Authorities say he later told his father that he had done something foolish. His father reportedly realized that Sorensen had left after causing a serious collision. Consequently, the father drove his son back to the scene approximately one hour later. Sorensen then spoke with investigators about what happened before his arrest.
During questioning, Sorensen allegedly acknowledged that he intentionally wanted to frighten Langdon. However, authorities say the incident produced a deadly outcome instead. Investigators continue examining surveillance footage, witness accounts, communications, and other evidence surrounding the confrontation. The evidence will likely play an important role as prosecutors pursue the murder allegation.
The fatal crash has also drawn attention because the victim and suspect reportedly worked together.
