Adam Schiff legal defense fund launched this week as the California senator faces a federal mortgage fraud probe. The Democrat’s spokeswoman said that the fund will help him fight baseless attacks. She said, “Donald Trump and his MAGA allies will weaponize the justice system to target Senator Schiff.”
The newly filed “Senator Schiff Legal Defense Fund” appeared in IRS records Thursday, according to the New York Times. This fund aims to cover legal costs while Schiff continues his Senate work. Schiff and President Donald Trump have clashed for years. Their feud began during Trump’s first term, especially after Schiff led the impeachment inquiry in 2019-2020. He accused Trump of abusing power and obstructing Congress.
Trump has repeatedly dismissed the Russia investigation as a hoax. Speaking at the Kennedy Center, Trump called it “phony” and blamed Schiff for spreading falsehoods. He also accused the Obama administration of politicizing intelligence to hurt his 2016 campaign. Trump said this misinformation made it harder to handle Russia properly. He even called on Attorney General Pam Bondi to take action.
Meanwhile, the White House called Schiff a “fraud” and “corrupt politician” when asked about the legal fund. Spokesman Harrison Fields said Schiff betrayed his oath to the Constitution. He added, “No amount of money can shield Adam from the truth that he is a fraud.”
Schiff played a key role in the January 6 committee, investigating the Capitol attack by Trump supporters. He also opposed preemptive pardons granted by President Joe Biden on his last day in office. Schiff described those pardons as unnecessary and a dangerous precedent.
Despite these political battles, Schiff denies any wrongdoing in the mortgage fraud case. He calls the probe a “baseless attempt at political retribution.” The Department of Justice investigates allegations that Schiff falsified bank and property documents to get better loan terms from 2003 to 2019. Additionally, The Federal Housing Finance Agency referred the case to the DOJ in May. Schiff’s legal team has yet to release detailed comments beyond denying all allegations.
As the legal fight begins, the Adam Schiff legal defense fund will support the senator’s defense while the investigation unfolds. Schiff insists he will continue serving his constituents amid the controversy.
