Google Search Lets You Choose Your Preferred News Sources

Google has launched a new feature that allows users to choose their preferred news sources on Google Search. This change helps readers see articles from news outlets they trust more easily. It gives users more control over their news experience while still showing a variety of viewpoints.

The feature is currently rolling out in the United States and India. Google plans to make it available worldwide soon. To use the feature, simply search for any topic. Then, tap the star icon at the top right corner of the Top Stories block.

After tapping the icon, you can enter and select your preferred news sources. You can add as many publishers as you want. When you finish, tap “Reload results” at the bottom of the page. This refreshes your search results to prioritize articles from your chosen outlets.

If your preferred news sources have covered the topic, their articles will appear more prominently. Google may show these articles at the top of the Top Stories block. Sometimes, they will appear in a new section labeled “From your sources” just below Top Stories. Google still includes stories from other publishers to ensure a balanced news feed.

This feature began as a Labs experiment in June. During the testing phase, more than half of the users added four or more preferred news sources. Google says it automatically applied those preferences for users once the feature launched fully.

Importantly, the new option could offer some relief for news publishers. In recent months, Google introduced several AI-driven changes to Search. These changes affected traffic to some news sites. By letting users choose their preferred news sources, Google helps publishers reach readers who want their content.

This update shows Google’s ongoing effort to improve the news experience on Search. It gives users greater control while supporting trusted news organizations. At the same time, it maintains a diverse mix of articles from various sources.

In summary, Google’s new feature allows users to customize the Top Stories block with their preferred news sources. This approach helps readers find trusted content faster. It also benefits news publishers by increasing their visibility. Users can update their preferred news sources anytime, ensuring their news feed always matches their interests.
